Moonee Valley City Council has awarded more than $59,000 to local sport and leisure clubs through the annual Recreation Capital Works Funding Scheme.

This year’s recipients include:
1. Buckley Park Bowls Club
2. Doutta Gala Tennis Club
3. Essendon Bowls Club
4. Moonee Ponds Bowls Club
5. Maribyrnong Park Bowls Club

The improvement of local recreation facilities is a key objective in the Council Plan – “to achieve sport, leisure and recreation opportunities that contribute towards community health and wellbeing, whilst creating and sustaining healthy, safe and active communities.”

Moonee Valley Mayor, Cr Paul Giuliano said that supporting our local sport and recreation facilities was very important.

“These clubs play a vital role in maintaining a healthy and active community.

“They are also an important social outlet where people can meet others, be part of a team and learn new skills,” he said.

This year a total of 10 applications were received. All applications were assessed against several criteria including:
• Applicants provide recreation, sporting and cultural services and/or programs that benefit the local community and enhance the quality of life within Moonee Valley
• Applicants should demonstrate that their request addresses recognised priorities in sporting, recreation and cultural needs across the municipality
• The availability of the facility to other community users
• The commitment of the organisation to encourage involvement of access for all abilities, junior development, and women within their activities
