Moonee Valley City Council is building an environmentally sustainable, accessible, state of the art, 98-place family and children’s centre in Keilor East, on the corner of Keilor Park Drive and Milleara Road.

Council has allocated $1 million to the project, the Federal Government has contributing $2.8 million and the State Government $500,000.

Construction is well underway and there is an interactive photo gallery on Council’s website which shows the progress of the works.

The centre will incorporate a range of services including long day care, kindergarten, maternal and child health and play groups.

Council is keen to get input from the community about local needs and what additional services should be included in the centre. You can have your say by filling in a survey.

Surveys are available online or in hardcopy by calling 9243 8888. Surveys are due by Friday 7 November however Council is happy to continue receiving feedback, input and surveys after this date.

The Mayor of Moonee Valley City Council, Cr Paul Giuliano, said the long term vision for the centre was about achieving an integrated service model or a one stop shop for families.

“Once the centre is up and running we will also look at incorporating additional services such as health promotion programs, flexible use of space for community groups, as well as other programs like financial counselling, adult learning and employment skills,” he said.

Council is looking to complete the building by the end of January 2010, and officially opening and launch the centre early 2010.

Council is taking expressions of interest from parents who would like to access children’s programs at this centre including long day care, kindergarten and maternal and child health services.

Parents can call Council on 9243 8888 or email millearahub@mvcc.vic.gov.au. Council is not taking enrolments yet, just expressions of interest at this stage.
